Livingston HealthCare Now Offers Robotic-assisted Surgery with the da Vinci Surgical System
Livingston HealthCare (LHC) now offers minimally invasive robotic-assisted surgeries. The da Vinci Robot is the next frontier for minimally invasive surgery combining the latest assisted surgical technologies which allows for easier access to targeted areas.
“The start of 2023 is an incredibly exciting time for surgical services at LHC with the acquisition and implementation of a Da Vinci robotic platform. This tried-and-true system allows surgeons to perform extremely precise movements in small spaces with minimal tissue injury,” says LHC’s general surgeon Dr. Justin Roberts. “For patients, this means smaller incisions, less pain and a faster recovery and return to what they enjoy. LHC will also be able offer new surgical service lines such robotic-assisted prostatectomy and partial nephrectomy, services that typically required travel to Bozeman, Billings or even farther.”
Robotic-assisted surgery technology was initially adopted for prostatectomies and gynecology, but now, the da Vinci Robot is becoming more commonly utilized in general surgery. Today, the da Vinci Robot can be used in hernia repair, thoracic surgery, gynecological, pelvic floor, urological and abdominal procedures including gall bladder, colorectal and a number of other procedures.
The da Vinci’s vision capabilities give the surgeon a highly magnified, crystal-clear, 3D view while operating, so he or she can see the fine details of the surgery. During robotic-assisted surgery, the surgeon controls the da Vinci surgical system through a special console in the room—the robot does not act on its own—its movements are controlled by the surgeon.

Clinical outcomes with robotic surgery may include a shorter length of stay in the hospital, lower post-surgery pain and use of medications, lower complication rates and faster recovery. “I’m so proud of our team at LHC as they continuously raise the bar in service to our community. A community event is being held Tuesday, January 24 from 5-7PM at Livingston HealthCare to get up-close to the da Vinci robot, speak with the surgeons and learn more about robotic-assisted surgery.
