Livingston HealthCare Maintains Community Trauma Facility Designation
(Livingston, MT)— Livingston HealthCare has successfully received full redesignation as a Community Trauma Facility within the Montana Trauma System, reaffirming its commitment to providing high-quality trauma care for Park County and the surrounding region. The designation was renewed on May 13, 2026, following a comprehensive review process.
The Montana Trauma System no longer classifies trauma facilities by numeric levels. Livingston HealthCare's Community Trauma Facility designation is equivalent to the former Level IV Trauma Center designation and recognizes the hospital's ability to provide rapid evaluation, stabilization, and treatment for injured patients.
"Maintaining our trauma designation demonstrates Livingston HealthCare's ongoing commitment to ensuring our community has access to high-quality emergency and trauma care close to home," said Jenn Schmid, RN, CFRN, CEN, Trauma Coordinator at Livingston HealthCare. "This designation reflects the dedication of our physicians, nurses, EMS partners, and support staff who work together every day to provide timely, coordinated care when patients need it most."
As a designated Community Trauma Facility, Livingston HealthCare is equipped to provide emergency assessment and stabilization of injured patients, perform resuscitation, deliver emergency diagnostic services such as laboratory testing and imaging, and provide surgical intervention when appropriate. For patients with more complex injuries requiring specialized services, the trauma team coordinates rapid transfer to higher-level trauma centers.
Participation in the Montana Trauma System requires Livingston HealthCare to meet rigorous standards that extend beyond emergency treatment. The hospital maintains ongoing educational requirements for emergency department physicians, emergency nurses, operating room staff, and intensive care unit nurses to ensure trauma care teams remain prepared to respond to a wide range of injuries.
In addition to clinical requirements, the designation emphasizes community outreach and collaboration. Livingston HealthCare provides injury prevention education throughout the community and works closely with local emergency medical services and first responders to strengthen trauma care across the region.
The trauma program also participates in continuous performance improvement activities, regularly reviewing patient care processes and outcomes to identify opportunities for improvement and ensure the highest standards of care.
"Trauma care is a team effort that begins long before a patient arrives at the hospital," said Schmid. "Our partnerships with EMS agencies, first responders, community organizations, and regional trauma centers help ensure patients receive the right care at the right time."
As the only hospital in Park County, Livingston HealthCare plays a vital role in providing emergency and trauma services for residents and visitors alike. Maintaining its Community Trauma Facility designation helps ensure that patients experiencing serious injuries have access to timely, coordinated trauma care close to home while remaining connected to the broader Montana Trauma System.
