Job Description
JOB SUMMARY:
The HIM Coding Lead serves as an additional support to the coding staff
and HIM Manager. The Coding Lead will be trained to fill in on various
coding department duties as designated by the HIM Manager. Lead responsibilities
are in addition to the employee’s current position, responsibilities
and duties as outlined in their associated job description.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Proficient in assignment of ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS classifications.
- Demonstrates an understanding of CCI and OCE edits, along with compliant
modifier assignment.
- Serves as an initial point of contact for coding staff questions, troubleshoots
coding issues, leads staff to supported solutions, facilitates research,
and brings unresolved questions to HIM Manager.
- Participates in providing education to coding staff through various means
including, but not limited to, webinar recommendations, written education,
meetings/huddles, and continued training.
- Conducts coding staff communication huddles to facilitate coding support,
collaboration, consistency, and continued education.
- May assist with retrieval of coding staff productivity reports.
- Collaborates with the HIM Manager on the creation and revisions of coding
policies and procedures.
- Conducts coding audits as assigned and reports findings to HIM Manager
and/or Compliance Committee.
- Communicates current issues and updates to HIM Manager during lead meetings.
- Recommends, and may assist with, delivery of LHC provider coding education topics.
- Provides coverage in HIM Manager’s absence for assigned meetings
and responsibilities as appropriate.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Additional duties may be assigned that reside within the scope and authority
of the Coding Lead.
- Lead duties are in addition to the employee’s responsibilities under
their current HIM title.
