Exercise Oximetry |
The purpose of exercise oximetry is to determine the need for home oxygen therapy. You will have electrodes attached to your chest (to monitor EKG during exercise) and a sensor will be attached to your forehead or ear lobe to determine the saturation of oxygen in the blood. You will then exercise on a treadmill, beginning slowly and gradually increasing as tolerated. Oxygen saturation will be continuously monitored to detect any decrease. The test will be stopped immediately if the oxygen decreases, or shortness of breath occurs. Oxygen and/or a breathing treatment will be given if needed. The test takes approximately 60 minutes and the results will be sent to your physician. Special Instructions
If you have any questions about this test, please speak with your doctor or call 406-823-6610. |
