24-Hour Holter Monitor

A Holter Monitor is very useful in diagnosing abnormal heart rhythms and in determining whether recurring symptoms such as dizziness, fainting, and palpitations are caused by abnormal rhythms. A small recorder (monitor) is attached to electrodes on your chest. It records a continuous EKG for 24 hours during your normal daily routine. You will be asked to keep a diary of your activity during this period and of any symptoms you experience. Upon return of the monitor, a report will be presented to your provider for interpretation.

Special Instructions:

  1. Shower or bathe before the test, since you will be unable to do so for 24 hours.
  2. Wear a shirt or blouse that can be easily removed.
  3. Wear the Holter monitor for 24-hours and then return it to the hospital.

If you have any questions about this test, please speak with your doctor or call 406-823-6610.
