An MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) procedure does not use radiation, but combines a powerful magnet with an advanced computer system and radio waves to create image "slices" of the human body. An MRI produces accurate, detailed pictures of organs and tissues in order to diagnose a variety of medical conditions. Due to the strength of the magnet, patients with pacemakers or other known internal metal objects cannot have an MRI exam. Prior to an MRI exam, all patients must fill out a questionnaire, and some patients may have to get a preliminary x-ray to rule out metal shavings embedded in the eyes or face. If you have questions, please talk to your physician or call Imaging Services at 406-823-6441. |
