Speech therapy is one of the rehabilitation services offered at Livingston HealthCare. Speech therapy focuses on the development or disorders of speech, language, voice, feeding, swallowing, and functional communication. Some specific disorders diagnosed and treated by speech therapy include but are not limited to:
Speech disorders with articulation (not saying sounds correctly or substitution of one sound for another)
Dysarthria or slurred speech
Language disorders such as developmental delay
Aphasia, a disorder that commonly occurs following a stroke that can include problems with expression, comprehension and following directions, reading and writing, as well as problems with swallowing
Dysphagia, or problems swallowing
Voice disorders, such as nodules or polyps
Laryngectomee or patients who have a tracheostomy tube
Cognitive Disorders, which can occur after a stroke or head injury and include problems with memory, thought processing, reasoning, judgement, and overall thought organization
Pediatric feeding and swallowing
Cleft Lip and Palate
Autism and Asperger’s Syndrome, and other related disorders
